A native of Cheshire, CT, Mr. Hechtman received his undergraduate degree from the American University (Washington, DC), receiving a BA in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics and Government (1998) and then received his law degree from Western New England College School of Law (Springfield, MA) and is currently a candidate for a Masters of Law (LLM) in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center (Washington, DC). Mr. Hechtman’s academic record placed him on the Dean's List during his third year of Law School. Further, Mr. Hechtman was honored with the CALI Excellence for the Future Award for outstanding achievement in Civil Procedure at the Juris Doctorate Level. Mr. Hechtman coauthored a chapter on Civil Damages in Massachusetts Litigation entitled, Damages, Interest and Attorneys Fees in Massachusetts Litigation (2nd Ed., M.C.L.E. Press).

 

During law school, Mr. Hechtman worked as a law clerk for the Northampton, MA firm of Green, Miles, Lipton and Fitz-Gibbon, where he assisted in complex civil litigation (including the representation of various cable and satellite companies in efforts to combat cable/satellite piracy) and major criminal defenses. He then earned the right to act as a student attorney in the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office. Ultimately, Mr. Hechtman joined JDKatz in May, 2006, as a Summer Associate where he assisted in various corporate matters including: corporate formation, mediation/negotiation of shareholder disputes and the due diligence/business sale process.  

 

Upon completing law school, Mr. Hechtman rejoined JDKatz in the spring of 2007, as a fulltime associate, with a focus in providing high-value representation to corporate and individual clients. His experiences and training have equipped Mr. Hechtman to help a roster of both local and national clients with a range of legal and business issues. He handles business formations, mergers and acquisitions and business disputes. Mr. Hechtman also provides advice in the areas of estate and tax planning (for complex estates), elder care issues and state and federal tax disputes. Mr. Hechtman is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the Montgomery County Bar Association, and is admitted to practice in Maryland and before the United States District Court – District of Maryland.
