Elizabeth J. McInturff, Esq., of JDKatz, P.C., recently wrote a guest column for The Daily Record, in which she explains how child custody disputes become all the more emotionally charged when one or both parents contest which state is the minor’s child home state with jurisdiction over the child. She explains that this is why 49 states have adopted the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act. At its core, this act is designed to determine which state has jurisdiction over child custody matters (i.e., home school system, parental rights to child support, etc.) and to facilitate the enforcement of such orders.
